LSC Reprimands Metheny, No Suspensions

4-11-07 - The Lone Star Conference announced a public reprimand of Southeastern Oklahoma coach Mike Metheny and Central Oklahoma coach Wendell Simmons Wednesday for their roles in an on-field incident during a baseball game on earlier this month in Durant, Okla.

"Both coaches violated the conference's sportsmanlike conduct policy, and as a result, both coaches have received a public reprimand," said Lone Star Conference Commissioner Stan Wagnon.

"Lone Star Conference policy is in place to ensure that all individuals employed or directly associated with the athletics program at LSC institutions will conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner when representing their university, especially at intercollegiate athletic contests."

As a result of the on-field incident and circumstances surrounding it, school officials at Central Oklahoma and Southeastern Okl ahoma State agreed to forego a conference baseball game that was to be played April 19 at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. Instead, the two teams will play April 18 at Central Oklahoma's Broncho Field in Edmond. In a communication to school administrators earlier this week, the conference office reaffirmed that decision as an appropriate response to the situation.

Additionally, both coaches have been notified that further such violations of the conference sportsmanlike conduct policy may result in a more severe penalty, including game suspension(s).

"After visiting with the involved parties, I feel confident the matter has been resolved," said Southeastern Oklahoma State Athletic Director Dr. Jeff Hale. "I look forward to the culmination of what has turned out to be a tight race for the North Division championship."
