SOSU Softball splits with SWOSU

4-15-07 -- The Savage Storm had already comandeered the opening game of Sunday's scheduled LSC North Division doubleheader with Southwestern Oklahoma State.

But that didn't stop Rachel Sill from providing the celebratory fireworks in a 13-0 run-rule win for Southeastern Oklahoma State at the SOSU Softball Field.

Sill followed a two-run line shot over the left-center field wall in the second inning with a three-run blast to the same spot in the third inning to put away the Bulldogs and gave Southeastern a season-best six-game winning streak.

The junior first baseman now has a team-leading 10 home runs. She also drove in a career-best six runs and scored three runs.

The Savage Storm jumped on Southwestern starter Alex Zukerman for six runs on four hits in the first inning highlighted Tressi Irby's two-run single to left field. Sill drove in another run on a walk, while Kenna Dean and Amy Wood added RBI-singles.

Southeastern kept the bats going in the second inning as Lesley Boyd led off with a single through the left side of the SWOSU infield, and Rachel Lynn followed with a double off of the center field wall before Sill blasted her first home run of the game.

Kaci Carpenter came on in relief of Zukerman, who allowed nine runs - four earned - on seven hits in 1 1/3 innings.

Carpenter added to the Bulldog trouble by walking Kylie Ferguson, who then advanced to second on a passed ball before Dean stroked an RBI-double to the left-field gap. The Savage Storm led 10-0 after three innings of play.

Southeastern spotted the Bulldogs two outs before starting a rally in the third, but Lynn legged out an infield single and Bailey Mathes drew a walk to set up Sill's second homer of the day.

Jami McAdoo worked the final three innings of the game to pick up her first win since March 3. She improved 7-8 while retiring all nine batters she faced, striking out four.

Carly Goodnight allowed one hit while working two inning as a starter.

Lynn, Sill and Dean paced the Southeastern attack with two hits each.

Junior outfielder Ashley Graham gave Southeastern Oklahoma State a 2-0 lead with a two-run second-inning single, but the Savage Storm was unable to hold Southwestern Oklahoma State as the Bulldogs rallied for a 3-2 win in the series finale Sunday afternoon at the SOSU Softball Field.

The loss dropped the Savage Storm 24-22 on the season, but more importantly, the Southeastern fell to 5-11 against the LSC North Division. The Bulldogs improved to 14-21 and 5-11.

Southwestern Oklahoma State got to SOSU starter Carly Goodnight for three runs and 10 hits, including two in the fifth before Keri Glidewell scored all the way from first on Megan McGill's double to the left-field gap for the game winner in the seventh.

Goodnight dropped to 16-13 on the season.

Graham capped an incredible week at the dish by going 3-for-4 with two RBIs on Saturday. Rachel Lyn n and Kylie Ferguson added two hits each to account for the rest of the Savage Storm offense.

Graham, a junior outfielder from Arlington, Texas, finished the week with a .542 average, two doubles and three home runs. She also drove in nine runs and made several key plays in the field.

Southwestern's Alli Flaman scattered seven runs over seven innings, while striking out one to improve to 6-11.

The Savage Storm return LSC North Division action on Tuesday afternoon when they play host to rival Central Oklahoma. The doubleheader is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
