4-16-07 -- A critical home win for the S&S softball team today gives them the inside track to the District Championship, as they shut out rival Tom Bean.
The Lady Rams defeated the Lady Cats 10-0 in a 6 inning run ruled game Monday afternoon in Sadler.
Tom Bean came into the matchup atop the District 14-2A standings with a 12-1 record, the loss drops them into 2nd place at 12-2.
S&S, which lost to Tom Bean in the 2 teams' previous meeting in March, moves into sole possession of 1st place at 12-1. Their final game of the district schedule is Tuesday against Bells. If they can win that game, they clinch the District Championship.
Megan Mitchell, who has been Tom Bean's starting pitcher nearly all season long, tried to make the start today, but the arm pain that has bothered her for most of the season forced her to leave the pitchers circle with her team down 2-0 in the 2nd inning.
Mitchell finished out the game as the team's right fielder.
Tom Bean head coach Lance Cherry said that he's not yet certain of her status for the playoffs, which start in less than a week.
