SOSU Softball sweeps season finale

4-28-07 - Southeastern Oklahoma State's top of the order was too much for East Central to handle in Game 2 Saturday as the Savage Storm pounded the Tigers 8-2 at the SOSU Softball Field.

The top four positions combined to go 8-for-8 in the third and fourth innings to fuel a pair of three spots in support of Savage Storm starter Jami McAdoo, who went the distance to finish the campaign with a 9-8 record.

SOSU's Tressi Irby led off the bottom of the third inning with a single through the left side against East Central starter Amanda Boyse.

Boyse would leave the game after being hit on the forearm while diving back into first base in the sixth inning, but not before she yielded seven runs - two earned - and 12 hits in five innings to fall to 5-10.

Ashley Graham followed Irby's single with another almost in the same spot, then Rachel Lynn easily be at out a bunt single to load the bases.

Rachel Sill followed with an RBI-single that ECU left fielder Jessica Loftis overran that allowed Irby and Graham to score to give the Storm a 3-0 lead.

Lynn was caught in a run down between second and third base on the play and eventually tagged out, but ECU second baseman Hillary Hughes sent a throw behind Sill at first base, but no one was covering allowing Sill to reach second.

Bailey Mathes followed with SOSU's fifth-striaght hit through the right side to move Sill to third. Amy Wood came on to pinch run and steal second before Sill scored on a passed ball to give SOSU a 4-0 lead through three innings.

The top of the order back at it in the fourth after Irby reached on an error with two outs. Once again, the foursome each delivered a single highlighed by Sill's two-run shot down the third-base line followed by Woods run-scoring hit to left center to push the Storm advantage to 7-0.

Wood added another RBI in the sixth to score Graham, who just missed a home run to the left-field gap and had to settle for a double.

Graham and Lynn eached accounted for three hits, while Sill was 2-for-3 and drove in three runs. Mathes and Wood had two hits each.

Jami McAdoo, who saw her consecutive streak of 21 scoreless innings snapped in the second, scattered six hits over seven innings while striking out five and walking one.


Southeastern Oklahoma State erupted for six first inning runs and rolled to a 9-0 run-rule win over East Central in five innings Saturday afternoon at the SOSU Softball Field.

The Savage Storm capped a three-game sweep of the Tigers as SOSU had claimed the first two games by scores of 6-0 and 8-2.

Southeastern closes the season on a five-game winning and finishes 30-25 and fifth in the LSC North at 9-14, while the Tigers finish 11-29 and 2-21.

Ferguson, a senior from Ringling, Okla., launched a three-run blast over the wall in left field as part of a six-hit explosion in the first inning. Rachel Sill and Lesley Boyd had already delivered with run-scoring single and Tressi Irby capped off the inning with another RBI-single up the middle.

The Savage Storm added another run in the second after Ashley Graham reached on a leadoff sing le to left field, advanced to second on Rachel Lynn's sacrifice bunt and scored on Jami McAdoo's single up the middle to put SOSU up 7-0.

Ferguson led off the third inning with her tenth career triple, then was lifted with a loud ovation for pinch runner Amy Wood. Ferguson finished her career with 246 hits, 166 hits and 10 triples - all career-records for the Storm.

Kenna Dean drove Wood in with a single to the right-field gap before scoring on Graham double to right-center to push the Storm advantage to 9-0.

That was more than enough for Carly Goodnight, who improved to 20-16 on the season while limiting the Tigers to three hits while striking out three and walking one.
