AC Heads to Regionals in California

5-14-07 - Graduation was held on Sunday at Austin College, but the Kangaroo baseball team has a little work left to do in the 2007 season as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference champions departed today for Orange County, California and the campus of Chapman University to play in the NCAA Division III West Regional beginning on Wednesday.

The team finished the season with an overall record of 22-23, including wins in five of six games in the SCAC Divisional and Championship Tournaments. The team swept nationally ranked Millsaps College and Rhodes College en route to claiming the school’s first conference title.

The ’Roos are in a seven team pool that includes, in descending order of seed, Chapman, Pacific Lutheran, Texas Lutheran, the University of Texas-Dallas, George Fox, and Pomona-Pitzer. The ’Roos enter play as the No. 7 seed in the regional, and will square off in the third game of the day on Wednesday against second seeded Pacific Lutheran.

During the season Austin College only met one of its potential regional opponents in former American Southwest Conference rival UT-Dallas, and dropped all three contests, though two of those games did not feature most of the ’Roo regulars.

In other day one action UT-Dallas will take on George Fox in game one, and Texas Lutheran gets Pomona-Pitzer in the second game, with top seeded Chapman receiving a first round bye. The final game on the first day will feature the losers of games two and three.

Game times have not yet been announced for Wednesday
