After trailing at halftime, the Denison Yellow Jackets responded with an impressive 2nd half to advance to the state quarterfinals, winning 35-26.
Jordan Taylor scored on Denison's first possession to take a 7-0 lead, but Marshall responded with three rushing touchdowns by Jamal Anderson and led 19-7 at the half.
Taylor's second rushing touchdown early in the third quarter closed the gap to 5 points at 19-14, and then D.J. Jones capped off a 95-yard drive with a touchdown run that gave Denison its first lead of the game, 22-19.
After a defensive stop, Taylor connected with Kyle Galyon on a 66-yard touchdown pass to extend Denison's lead to nine, 28-19. After a Marshall touchdown made it 28-26 Denison, Taylor found Jimmay Mundine over the middle on fourth down for another touchdown and a 35-26 Yellow Jackets lead.
Seth Brittain intercepted Marshall's Brandon Fitzgerald on the Mavericks' next possession to seal the victory for Denison.
The Jackets will play Sulphur Springs next Saturday at Ford Stadium on the SMU Campus in Dallas. Kickoff time has been set for 2:00pm.
Denison lost to Sulphur Springs in the third round of last year's playoffs, ending their season. Saturday's game will serve as a rematch.
