Matthews Heads to Pottsboro

6-5-07 - Former Van Alstyne Panthers head coach Randy Matthews is headed to Pottsboro to serve as the defensive coordinator, pending board approval.

The former Sherman Bearcats assistant took over as the head coach at Van Alstyne in 2001, and immediately took the Panthers to the state title game in his first season.

Matthews was re-assigned in 2006, when Van Alstyne hired Brian Polk to take over the football team.

Matthews will be reunited with Pottsboro head coach Matt Poe, who he worked with on the Sherman staff under Ronnie Tipps.
