Sherman struggles, Celina, Lindsay, Melissa all advance in 7-on-7

6-9-07 -- It was a tough draw in pool play for the Sherman Bearcats 7-on-7 team today down at the Southlake Carroll Qualifier.

The Bearcats drew district foe Wichita Falls, along with perennial powers Stephenville and Southlake Carroll. Sherman fell to the Dragons in their first game of the afternoon 41-14. Then Stephenville had their way with them as well, winnin 41-19. The Bearcats rebounded to knock off Wichita Falls 27-20 in their final game of the day. Sherman now has 1 more chance to qualify for the state tournament if they can win the Paris Qualifier next Saturday.

The 1A-3A North Texas Qualifier was also held today. Celina, Melissa, and Lindsay all entered teams. The surprise of this tournament was Lindsay who earned a berth in the tournament championship team opposite Celina. The Bobcats won that game which was called at the half because Lindsay's squad consisted of just 10 players and it was their 6th game of the day. But each of the teams who were able to win their respective pool earned a spot in the state tournament. Thus, Celina, Lindsay and Melissa will all be headed to state.

The state tournament is held annually in College Station. Tournament dates for this year are July 13th & 14th.
