Rangers trade Lofton for minor-leaguer

CLEVELAND (AP) - The Texas Rangers today traded outfielder Kenny Lofton to Cleveland. Lofton returns for his third stint with the Indians.

The Rangers get minor league catcher Max Ramirez, who'll be assigned to Class-A Bakersfield.

The Indians acquired Ramirez last season from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for closer Bob Wickman.

Texas also recalled outfielder Nelson Cruz from Triple-A Oklahoma.

Lofton -- who's 40 -- was a five-time All-Star in nine seasons in Cleveland.

Cleveland hasn't made the playoffs since he left as a free agent following the 2001 season.

Lofton -- since getting a 20-game trial with Houston late in the 1991 season -- has played for ten other teams.

With Texas again in last place in the AL West, there's been plenty of interest from contending teams in Lofton and Mark Teixeira.
