NORMAN, OK -- A change of venue and a hot August day did not prevent thousands of OU faithful from descending on Norman for the annual Meet the Sooners Day on Friday. Fans from all parts of the state and beyond began assembling as early as 5 a.m., in an effort to be the first in line to meet Head Coach Bob Stoops and the 2007 Sooners.
A crowd estimated at over 10,000 packed the rugby/soccer practice fields west of the Lloyd Noble Center armed with footballs, helmets, posters and other memorabilia to collect autographs and converse with their favorite Sooners.
Members of the OG+E Sooner Kids Club were admitted at approximately 10 a.m., with the general public following 30 minutes later.
The team arrived at the rugby/soccer practice fields via bus from Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium after completing Media Day activities in the morning. Coach Stoops, along with coordinators Brent Venables and Kevin Wilson, each held press conferences in the Red Room to start the day. Quarterbacks Sam Bradford, Joey Halzle and Keith Nichol also addressed the media.
