SOSU Gets Bump in Polls

9-4-07 - The Southeastern Oklahoma State football team opened the 2007 season with a 48-26 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State and were rewarded in the American Football Coaches' Association Division II Coaches' Poll by moving up to a No. 16 ranking in the poll's second week.

SOSU opened the season at No. 18 in the preseason poll as well as the poll's first weekly release before actually opening the season on Aug. 30.

Southeastern is tied in the poll with West Texas A&M who is coming off a 55-45 win over then-No. 8 South Dakota.

The Lone Star Conference placed five teams in the poll, the most of any conference.

Also joining SOSU and WTAMU are No. 18 Midwestern State who moves up one spot after an idle week, No. 22 Tarleton State who moves into the poll after a 27-24 overtime upset of FCS member Stephen F. Austin and No. 24 Abilene Christian who falls after a 27-17 loss to Central Oklahoma.

The rankings add more intrigue to an already volatile matchup at Paul Laird Field this Saturday when No. 16 SOSU hosts No. 22 Tarleton State at 6 p.m.

It is one of three contests across the nation to feature ranked opponents going head-to-head.
