The Austin College men’s soccer team got a pair of dramatic goals late, first to force overtime and then to give the ’Roos the win in a 2-1 victory over the University of Dallas on Saturday afternoon. Austin College is now 6-6-3 overall on the season.
The Crusades struck first with a tally in the 12th minute by Preston Waltrip on an assist from Ryan Meske, and that remained the score until Chris Melton took a ball played by Garrett Evans with 10 seconds remaining in regulation and punched it into the back of the net to force overtime in the 90th minute of play.
It looked like things were headed to a second overtime until Robert Lamilla’s throw in was played by Evans to Memo Allande, who blasted a shot past UD keeper Sam Carter with just 14 seconds remaining in the first overtime, giving the ‘Roos the golden goal and the 2-1 victory.
Austin College out-shot UD 28-12 in the game and Grant Gosselin made two saves in the net. Carter made seven stops for the Crusaders.
The ’Roos are off until next Friday when they host Rhodes College at 4:00 p.m.
