BOLT Debuts At Homecoming Bonfire

Bolt the new Savage Storm Mascot debuted Friday night at the annual Homecoming Bonfire.

Bolt was the name selected by Southeastern students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members in a 10-day online vote.

The Savage Storm Mascot Naming Contest started with a two-week submission period in which nearly 100 name suggestions were submitted by over 475 fans.Â

President Larry Minks' Mascot Naming Team narrowed that list to four finalists and a ten-day online vote decided the new Savage Storm mascot's name.

The promotion finished with 4,636 votes, which works out to an average of 452 votes per 24 hours. Bolt finished with an overwhelming majority at 60.55% followed by a late-charging Sulli (23.51%). Stormy (11.24%) and Lightning (4.70%) finished a distant third and fourth respectively.

Bolt made his first ever appearance dancing with the student body to a montage of hits including Let Me Clear My Throat, Usher's Yeah, Shout, Hip Hop Hooray, and Baby Got Back. Bolt rode in the Homecoming Parade Saturday morning, appear in Tailgate Alley, then storm the field as Southeastern takes on Texas A&M-Commerce in the Homecoming football game. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Paul Laird Field at Southeastern
