Baseball Set for Home Opener on Tuesday

DURANT, Okla. - Southeastern will finally get to open the home portion of its 2014 schedule when it welcomes Arkansas-Fort Smith for a double-header beginning at noon on Feb. 18 at The Ballpark in Durant.

The Savage Storm enter the midweek matchup at 3-4 on the season after dropping its weekend series against Henderson State.

In that series the Storm took the first contest by a comfortable 11-5 score, but dropped the second game after giving up a ninth-inning lead and going extra innings before falling 5-4 and was handed an 8-1 loss in the finale.

SE has a pair of .300 hitters in the early going of the season, led by Chance Burcham who is hitting .368 with a home run and four RBI.

Cade Clay is hitting .308 on the season with four runs scored and one RBI, but leads the team in walks with nine which helped him to a team-best .591 on-base percentage.

Evan Ramsey paces the club in RBI with six, while Ramsey and Burcham have the team's two home runs.

On the hill, Mathew Benedict is carrying a 0.87 ERA with a 1-0 record in three appearances, allowing five runs, only one of which was earned, on eight hits over 10.1 innings pitched.

Dwight Camp and Mason Crenshaw each claimed a win to join Benedict.

Canyon Conley leads the team in strikeouts with 15 in 9.2 innings pitched over two appearances, while Crenshaw has collected the team's lone save.

UAFS comes into the game at 3-3 on the year after dropping three-straight to Central Oklahoma over the weekend.

The Lions are led by Josh Vanderpool who is hitting .571 with a homer and four RBI.

Curtis Clark leads the team in RBI with five, while Brennan Rogers has scored a team-high four runs.

Darrin Pittman is the only starter to record a win on the hill for UAFS, while Austin Duerr and Devin Hampton have each collected wins in relief.
