Baseball Treks West to Face NWOSU

Southeastern will follow up its longest road trip east with its longest conference road trip to the west when it heads to Alva, Okla., to face Northwestern Oklahoma State in a three-game series April 12-13.

Game one of the series is slated for 6 p.m. on Friday night with a Saturday double-header set for a 1 p.m. first pitch.

SE comes into the contest at 17-16 on the season and 10-11 in Great American Conference play in need of a series victory to improve its chances of making the conference tournament where the top six teams advance at the end of the season, with the Storm currently in seventh.

NWOSU enters the weekend with an 18-19 mark overall and a 7-14 record in GAC play and are currently ninth in the conference standings.

SE has dropped five-straight games for the first time since the 2009 season.

The Storm will be looking for the pitching staff to get back on track to where it has been for most of the season, with Vance Woodruff, Brandon Marris and Eddie Cervantes all with sub-four ERA's as starters.

Woodruff leads the way with a 2.45 ERA, but is 2-7 on the season, while Marris is 2-3 with a 3.03 mark and Cervantes leads the team with a 4-3 mark and a 3.79 ERA.

Cameron Mann has handled the closing duties and has seven on the year to go with a 3-1 record and a 3.66 ERA.

Offensively, Evan Ramsey continues to top the team with a .339 average to go with team highs of seven home runs and 26 RBI.

Ryan Salter, Chevis Springer, Tucker Alexander and Troy McCartney are each batting better than .300.

Salter leads the team and the conference in stolen bases with 25, while Salter and Alexander each have eight doubles.

The Rangers have lost seven of their last nine on the year and lean on starters Jason Martyn, Clay Thomas and Camilo Baldelomar who have combined to post a 10-7 record.

Martin and Josh Swain have collected the clubs only two saves.

Juan Natal leads the team in hitting with a .418 average, but has only played in 28 of the team's 37 games, while three other everyday starters have posted better than .300 averages, led by Calvin Ellis at .374.

Daniel Bolanos leads the team with seven homers and 32 RBI.
