SOSU's Cooper to Enter Oklahoma Sports HOF

Southeastern rodeo legend Roy Cooper will add to his list of honors when he is inducted as a member of the 2014 class to the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame on August 4, 2014.

Cooper is the fourth member of the Southeastern family to earn a place in the Hall, as he will join 1993 inductee Bloomer Sullivan, 2007 inductee Jerry Shipp and 2011 inductee Crystal Robinson.

Cooper will enter the Hall of Fame with Mick Cornett, Leslie O'Neal, Darrell Porter, Gerald Tucker and J.C. Watts.

The ceremony will be held on August 4 at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, a place Cooper is very familiar with as a member of the National Cowboy Hall of Fame.

Cooper competed for SE as a student before going on to be one of the most decorated professional cowboys in the sports' history, earning spots in the Pro-Rodeo, the National and the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fames.

Following his time at Southeastern he burst onto the roping scene in 1976 earning the PRCA Resistol Rookie of the Year honor as he earned the Calf Roping championship and finished sixth in the All-Around.

He would eventually go on to become the first cowboy to break the $2 million mark in career earnings.

Cooper has tallied eight world championship titles, including the 1983 All-Around Championship.

In his illustrious career he has a record 19 National Final Rodeo qualifications in the calf roping along with 13 in the steer roping for a record 32 total NFR qualifications.

He has set a total of eight NFR Arena records, four in the calf roping and four in the steer roping.

He set the steer roping finals fastest average time with a 131.5 on 10 head in 1996.

In 1983 he became one of just 10 men in Pro Rodeo history to win the prestigious Triple Crown of World Championships, and over his career has won nearly every major rodeo across the United State and Canada.
