Davis wins state for first time since 1995

The Davis Wolves rallied to beat Millwood in the closing moments of a thrilling 36-32 Class 2A state championship game.

A mistake filled first half left little reason for hope that Davis could shake off their recent championship game struggles. After a botched punt and other errors, the Wolves trailed 26-7 at halftime.

But the second half was an entirely different story. After trailing 32-14, the Wolves scored 22 unanswered points to hoist their first gold ball since 1995.

Davis converted a key onside kick at the 3 minute mark to gain an extra possession. The Wolves would later punch in the game winning touchdown with a minute remaining.

"I told them at halftime that we are not a team that will give up very easy, " head coach Jody Weber said. "We have a very strong will. I give it all to the kids. In the 4th quarter we got stops. I made some terrible offensive calls and they made up for it."
