The East Central University baseball team split the final two games of the series with Henderson State at Clyde Berry Field. The Tigers (5-16, 5-7 GAC) earned a 5-4 win in the opening game of the day before falling 2-5.
ECU was led by senior Kris Molter, who tallied a .571 batting average on four hits and one run scored. Junior Jake McKeel added a .500 average, with three this and three RBIs.
Junior Jake Wellington picked up the win in the opening game, throwing 1.2 innings and allowing one hit and one run. Sophomore Shae Edmonds earned the save, throwing the final inning and allowing just one hit.
The Tigers will now get ready for one of the few mid-week games left for the 2016 season, as they are set to face Texas Wesleyan, Wednesday, March 16 at 3 p.m. at Ken Turner Field.
East Central 5, Henderson State 4
The Tigers started the day by scoring a run in the first inning. Junior Riley Roberts started the game by reaching due to an error and then stole second. Molter was added to the bases with a single and after the second out of the inning, McKeel earned the RBI with a single.
ECU added a second run in the second inning on a double from Mound, a sacrifice bunt from junior Kodiak O'Ravez and a single from Roberts.
The Tigers made the score 3-0 in the fourth, with a two-out solo home run from Mound to left field.
The score was pushed to 4-0 in the fifth when Roberts and junior Trevor Huie both doubled.
The Reddies (11-12, 8-5 GAC) cut into the lead with a three-run seventh inning, with three hits.
HSU then tied the game at four in the eighth with a single run.
However, ECU kept fighting and took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the eighth. Molter led off the day with a single to right field. Junior Kevin Matthews sent Molter to second with a sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch put Molter on third. McKeel then picked up his second RBI of the day with a double.
The Reddies got runners on first and second in the top of the ninth, but a runner was caught stealing for the final out of the game, giving the Tigers the 5-4 win.
HSU 5, East Central 2
ECU opening the scoring in the first inning. After an out, Huie was walked and was sent around on a double my McKeel.
The Tigers added to the lead with another run in the third inning for a 2-0 advantage. Roberts started the inning with a bunt single and was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Huie. Molter singled and McKeel was walked to load the bases. That allowed junior Kristian De La Toree to earn the RBI with a sacrifice fly to left field.
The Reddies then mounted their come-back, scoring two runs in the fourth, one in the sixth and two more in the seventh for the 2-5 win.
