ADA - The East Central University baseball team took the first game of the three-game Great American Conference series against Harding, 4-3 at Ken Turner Field.
The Tigers (7-19, 7-9 GAC) were led by junior Jake McKeel, who tallied two hits and added two RBIs. Juniors Casey Kenney and Kodiak O'Ravez added two hits and a run each.
Sophomore Brandon Dusenberry threw a complete game, earning his first win of the year. Dusenberry allowed five hits and three runs (one earned), while striking out three.
ECU was the first to get on the scoreboard, taking a 1-0 lead in the third inning. After the first out Kenney singled and was sent to third when senior Kris Molter doubled down the left field line. McKeel earned his first RBI of the game with a single to left field.
The Bisons (12-17, 5-11 GAC) tied the game at one in the top of the fourth, but the lead was short lived.
The Tigers responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, taking a 4-1 advantage. After the first out O'Ravez singled and was sent to third on a double from sophomore Dalton Etheredge. Two runs were able to score on the next play when junior Trey Mound singled and went to second on a throwing error.
Molter kept the inning going when he was hit by a pitch and the final run was scored when McKeel singled.
Harding tried to mount a come-back in the sixth, adding two runs for a 4-3 score. The Bisons has base runners in the eighth and ninth innings, but the ECU defense didn't let the runners past second and ended up winning 4-3.
The teams will wrap up the series, Saturday, March 26 with a doubleheader slated to start at 1 p.m. at Ken Turner Field.
