ECU Inducts Three in 2013 Hall of Fame Class

The East Central University Hall of Fame will have three new members, Saturday, Feb. 2 when Christy Burdon (Jones), Gerome Castleberry and Jason Wilkerson are added as the Class of 2013.

Burdon is the first women’s soccer player to earn the honor of a spot in the ECU Hall of Fame after playing for the Lady Tigers from 1999-2002. The Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada native, is the ECU leader for goals in a season (16), goals in a career (41), assists in a career (17), points in a season (37), and points in a career (99).

Burdon was named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 1999 and 2000. She also earned All-LSC Second Team honors are a freshman and sophomore and was named to the All-LSC Academic Team, Commissioner’s Honor Roll and All-LSC Tournament Team during her time with the Lady Tigers. In her freshman campaign she finished the season ranked No. 30 in the NCAA for her 2.18 points per game and 23rd for her 0.94 goals per game.

Burdon is married to ECU baseball alum A.J. Jones and the couple currently lives in Denver with their three children; Kenzie (3) and twins Ty and Easton (9 months). Burdon is a physician assistant working at Children’s Hospital Colorado in Pediatric Gastroenterology.

Castleberry was a standout on the ECU football team from 1999-2002 before signing to play in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals in 2003. He also went on to play professionally in Germany, where he has back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons and played in the German Bowl XXVII in 2006.

In 2001, Castleberry led ECU and the LSC with 1,308 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. The two time, All-LSC First Team selection was named to the Daktronics All-West Region First Team and to Dan Hansen’s Football Gazette All-America Third Team at the end of his junior season.

Castleberry currently works for the Bedford Police Department in Texas and will soon be relocating back to Germany to be closer to his son.

Wilkerson was a member of the men’s basketball team from 1999-2004 and played for ECU Hall of Fame Coach Wayne Cobb. Wilkerson started all but one game in his career and left the Tigers ranked second in the ECU record books for three-pointers made in a career (213), fourth in scoring (1,641 points) and fourth in rebounding (768). He also has the top spot for the most three-pointers made in a single game (9).

Wilkerson is currently the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Durant High School. He is married to Stephanie Wilkerson and the couple has three children, Ethan (7), Jaci (5) and Jaden (2).

Saturday’s Hall of Fame day will start at 9 a.m. in the Ballroom, with a Cheer Clinic from 9 a.m. to noon for ages 3-12. Contact Jill Clark at (405) 406-5872 for more information. The Hall of Fame reception will take place at the Kerr Activities Center from 1-2 p.m., with the women’s basketball game against Ouachita Baptist starting at 2 p.m. and the men’s game set to start at 4 p.m. Between the women’s and men’s games the three inductees will be introduced. At half time of the men’s game the men’s and women’s cross country teams will be honored with the presentation of their championship rings.
