The East Central University volleyball team will open the 2014 season over the weekend at the Rockhurst Classic in Kansas City, Mo. The Lady Tigers will face Pittsburg State and William Jewell (Sept. 5) then Missouri Western State and Northwest Missouri State (Sept. 6).

Scouting Pittsburg State
The Gorillas finished the 2013 season with a 16-16 overall record and a 6-10 mark in the MIAA. PSU faced five schools from the Great American Conference, going 3-2 for the year.
The Gorillas have 10 returns, including four starters. Madison Mosier is the top returner from the team offensively. She tallied 305 kills, a .254 attack percentage and 68 blocks. PSU also returns their setter in Hayley Hansford with 9.74 assists per set.
Against the Gorillas
PSU was the victor in the meeting between the two teams in 2013, with a 3-0 decision.
Hayley Gerken led the Lady Tigers with five kills and three digs.
Madison Mosier led the Gorillas with nine kills, five digs and three blocks.
Friday's meeting will be the third in the all-time series, with the Gorillas having claimed wins in both previous matches on neutral courts.
Scouting William Jewell
The Cardinals finished 2013 with a 4-28 overall mark and a 2-16 record in the GLVC. William Jewell returns 10 players and five starters from that team, but lost their setter.
Kaylee Marquardt is the top returner for the Cardinals after averaging 2.33 kills per set and a .095 hitting percentage. She also added 230 digs and 39 (4-35) blocks.
Friday's meeting will be the first in the all-time series between ECU and William Jewell.
Scouting Missouri Western
The Griffons were 16-15 overall and 9-7 in the MIAA in 2013, including a 2-1 record against teams from the GAC. MWSU has 12 returners and all seven starters from a season ago.
Erica Rottinghaus is one of four returners that tallied over 225 kills for the season, garnering 387. She also added 47 service aces, 377 digs and 38 (4-34) blocks.
Against the Griffons
Last year ECU fell 0-3 to the Griffons on a neutral court.
Hayley Gerken led the Lady Tiger returns with five kills and four block assists.
Erica Rottinghaus is the top returner for MWSU with 12 kills, five service aces, six digs and two blocks.
This will be the fourth meeting in the all-time series, with ECU trailing 1-2 and all the matches having been played on a neutral court.
Scouting Northwest Missouri State
The Bearcats finished 18-18 overall and 6-10 in the MIAA last season. NMSU returns 10 players and four starters, but have lost the setter from a season ago.
Brooke Bartosh is the top returner with a .227 (285k-123e-714ta) attack percentage and 52 (9-43) blocks.
Against the Bearcats
ECU and NWSU meet last during the 2012 season when the Lady Tigers fell 0-3.
Hayley Gerken is the lone returner that has played the Bearcats, having garnered three kills and six blocks.
Brooke Bartosh is the top returner for NWSU with 10 kills and a .350 attack percentage.
The Lady Tigers and the Bearcats have met just once before during the 2012 season, with ECU falling 0-3.
The Lady Tigers will head home for six matches next week. ECU will open the GAC season, Tuesday, Sept. 9 against Southern Nazarene at 7 p.m. and then host the South Central Classic, Sept. 11-13. The Lady Tigers face New Mexico Highlands, Sept. 11 (7 p.m.), UCO (2 p.m.) and Missouri Southern State (7 p.m.) Sept. 12 and Texas A&M International (8 a.m.) and Langston (Noon) Sept. 13.
