ECU Women's Golf 5th at GAC Championship

The East Central University women’s golf team finished the 2013 Great American Conference Championship in fifth after three rounds at the Hot Springs Country Club Park Course.

I’m very proud of the effort of the team through the course of this tournament,” said head coach Danny Key. “Our first round scores got us in trouble, but the team fought back and made a great improvement. I think it was a good experience for all the players to have to play under that type of pressure.”

The Lady Tigers finished with a 975 (333-319-323), with Harding earning the title with a 933, Henderson State finishing second with a 956 and Arkansas Tech and Southwestern tying for third with 961.

Senior Ashley Cardwell finished tied for seventh individually, with a 234 (80-75-79). Her 75 in the second round was the lowest round of the season for the Mustang, Okla., native.

Sophomore Lindsey Lunceford and freshman Megan Gowens both tied for 16th with a three-day total of 246. Lunceford shot 82, 81 and 83 over the tournament, while Gowens hit 87, 81 and a season-low of 78.

Senior Emily Wharton finished tie for 19th overall with a 249 (84-82-83), while freshman Sarah Delong was tied for 28th with a 263 (90-90-83).
