ADA – The East Central University football team has unveiled the schedule for the 2013 season, the first year with the new turf surface that is in the final weeks of completion at Norris Field.
The Tigers, who finished the 2012 season with a 6-5 mark, will face only teams from the Great American Conference in their slate of 10 games.
“We are excited about the 2013 schedule,” said head coach Tim McCarty. “We are especially excited to have the opportunity to open up at home for the first time in seven years. There are some exciting game dates in Ada planned for the season.”
ECU will open the season at home for the first time since September 2, 2006 when they hosted Pittsburg State. The Tigers will face Arkansas-Monticello, September 7 at 6 p.m. at Norris Field.
The first road test will come September 14 at Southern Arkansas, who finished third in the GAC in 2012. ECU will then return home September 21 at 6 p.m. against Ouachita Baptist.
The Tigers will then have to travel to face Henderson State, a team that finished 2012 ranked No. 6/9 in the polls, September 28.
Homecoming will follow, October 5 with a start time of 4 p.m. against Southern Nazarene. Homecoming will feature a 20-year reunion for 1993 NAIA Football Championship team.
ECU will then have a bye week that falls directly in the middle of the schedule.
The Tigers will remain at home for an October 19 match up with Northwestern Oklahoma State (2 p.m.) before traveling to Southwestern Oklahoma State, October 26.
ECU will have just one home game in November, facing Arkansas Tech November 2 at Norris Field (2 p.m.).
The final two games of the season will but the Tigers on the road. The first test will be at Harding, a team that was ranked No. 12/15 in the nation at the end of 2012, November 9. ECU will end the regular season at arch-rival Southeastern Oklahoma State for the second-straight season, November 16.
