For the first time under head coach Don Hudson, Southeastern golf has earned a trip to the Central region tournament which will be held at The Club at Strawberry Creek in Kenosha, Wisc., May 6-8.
The Savage Storm are advancing to their second regional since resurrecting the men's golf program in 2005, with the last trip coming in 2008.
SE is coming off a fifth-place finish at the Great American Conference tournament in which the team got off to a slow start, but recovered to post improved scores everyday, including a round-best mark of 288 on the final day.
The Savage Storm enter the regional as the No. 9 team, with fellow GAC schools Southwestern Oklahoma State (No. 2), Arkansas Tech (No. 6) and Henderson State (No. 7) also earning at-large invitations.
Central Oklahoma finished atop the region, while Central Missouri, Washburn, Northeastern State, Nebraska-Kearney and St. Cloud State round out the Central region.
The Central will partner with the Midwest Region in Kenosha, which features teams from the Great Lakes Valley Conference and the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference.
At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 20-24, at Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pa. In addition, the fourth and fifth place teams from both the Central and Midwest Regional and from the South Central and West Regional will advance to the finals. From the South and Southeast Regional, the teams finishing fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh will also advance to the finals. The finals will be hosted by Millersville at Hershey Country Club (East Course).
There will be four regional sites in which two regions will meet and conduct regional tournaments. The regional tournaments will be paired as follows:
Atlantic and East
Central and Midwest
South and Southeast
South Central and West
