Jackson Participates in NFL Coaching Fellowship

East Central University football offensive coordinator Rashad Jackson had a busy summer. Not only was he helping the Tiger football program prepare for the 2013 season, he was also working with the Denver Broncos coaching staff in the Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship program.

The program’s objective is to be used as a vocational tool to increase full-time NFL minority coaches among all 32 NFL teams and is conducted on an annual basis.

Jackson was selected to the program by the Denver Broncos and was hired to assist during minicamp, training camp and one of the preseason games. This season the Broncos had four participants in the program. Jackson worked with the running backs where he worked on practice film during training camp and drill work during practices.

The fellowship is very competitive, as Jackson has been applying for the past four years before earning a position this season. The application process includes sending a resume, writing a 500 word essay and selecting your top-five organizations to work with.

The fellowship will aid Jackson with the Tigers offense this season by having different schemes to implement on the field and ideas on how to develop our student-athletes all-around.

One of the things that stood out the most to Jackson was the relationships that he was able to build while with the Broncos staff.

“Everyday people were introducing themselves to me, from players and coaches to PR and Video Staff. They were all opening and kind,” said Jackson. “They did a really good job and I enjoyed being around the staff.”
