The East Central University softball team saw seven players recognized as 2014 All-Great American Conference team members at the banquet prior to the start of the 2014 GAC Tournament Championship.
Senior Gina Mengwasser earned the top honor of the night for the Lady Tigers, as an All-GAC First Team selection as a catcher. The Edmond, Okla., native, who was recently named the ECU Softball MVP, had a strong senior season. She has recorded a .345 batting average, with 49 hits, 27 runs and 39 RBIs. Of her 49 hits, 17 were doubles and 11 were sent over the fence for home runs.
The Lady Tigers also saw four players named to the All-GAC Second Team. Redshirt freshman Sydney Dow (P), junior Samantha McGraw (3B) and sophomores Leah Tigert (OF) and Autumn Suydam (At-Large) were all honored as second team members.
Dow has led the team in the circle this season, with a 12-4 record, four shutouts, eight complete games and 120 strikeouts.
McGraw has a .340 batting average, 54 hits, 28 runs and 32 RBIs.
Tigert is third on the team, with a .388 average, 64 hits, 27 runs and 38 RBIs.
Suydam is the top producer at the plate for ECU, with a .400 average, which ranks No. 5 in the GAC. She has 60 hits, 38 runs and 17 RBIs.
The final two members of the All-GAC teams were sophomore Jordynn VanPelt (OF) and junior Kaile Marcum (SS), as All-GAC Honorable Mention picks.
VanPelt leads the team and league with 56 RBIs and adds 51 hits, 13 home runs, 35 runs scored and a .342 batting average.
Marcum is second on the team with a .399 average and has garnered 57 hits, 3 runs and 15 RBIs.
The Lady Tigers will open the 2014 GAC Tournament, Thursday, May 1 at 4 p.m., facing Harding at the Tiger Athletic Complex in Bentonville, Ark. Win or lose ECU will also play later that night at 8 p.m. in the double-elimination tournament.
