Men’s Golf Finishes Ninth at Oklahoma Baptist Fall Invitational

SHAWNEE, OKLA. – The East Central University men’s golf team finished ninth, out of 11 teams, at the Oklahoma Baptist Fall Invitational at the Shawnee Country Club.

“It was a tough course with fast greens,” said head coach Danny Key. “We haven’t played on greens that fast yet this year so we struggled a little with our short game. We had a lot of young players that were competing in their first collegiate tournaments or the first in a long time, but we learned how to compete today.”

The Tigers were led by freshman Blade Knox, who tallied a career-best 156 (79-77) on the par-72 course. Knox finished tied for 18th out of 71 competitors.

“I was proud of how Blade Knox played at this tournament,” added Key. “He was familiar with the course have grown up in the area and it showed in his scores.”

Freshman Jordan Bates was the second-highest finisher for ECU, earning a 162 (83-79) and finished tied for 37th. Fellow freshman Jason Goben was tied for 46th with a 166 (84-82), freshman Zach Enzbrenner was tied for 51st with a 170 (83-87) and senior Brandon Nicholson was 63rd with a 173 (86-87).

The Tigers will return to action Oct. 23-24 at the Bruce Williams Memorial in San Antonio, Texas at The Dominion Country Club.
