Men’s Golf Returns to Links for UAFS Lion’s Classic

After being idle for over a month the East Central University men’s golf team will return to the links for the Arkansas-Fort Smith Lion’s Classic, March 24-26 in Fort Smith, Ark. The two-day event will take place at the Hardscrabble Country Club.

The Tigers will be one of nine teams in the tournament, including Southeastern Oklahoma State from the Great American Conference. Besides the host Lions, ECU will also battle with Minnesota State-Crookston, Newman, Dallas Baptist, McMurry, Oklahoma Christian and Missouri Southern.

The Tigers quintet will consist of two seniors, a junior and two freshmen. Seniors Dakota Robbins and Travis Keeley, junior Travis Arnold and freshmen Jason Goben and Blade Knox will be competing for ECU.

Robbins currently has the top average of the Tigers, with a 77 in five events. Goben is next on the list with a four-tournament average of 78.4. Keeley and Arnold are both hitting around 79, with Keeley hitting 79.2 in five tournaments and Arnold hitting 79.8 in four events. Knox rounds out the field with an 81.6 average after four events.

Women’s Golf Prepares for UAFS Lion’s Classic

ADA – The East Central University women’s golf team will play its fourth tournament of the spring season when they travel to Fort Smith, Ark., to play in the Arkansas-Fort Smith Lion’s Classic. The two-day tournament will take place at the Hardscrabble Country Club.

The Lady Tigers will be one of eight teams in the tournament, including two other teams from the Great American Conference; Harding and Southern Nazarene. Beside the host Lions, ECU will also face Angelo State, Newman, Dallas Baptist and Oklahoma Christian.

The Lady Tigers will bring two seniors, two sophomores and one freshman to this year’s event. Senior Ashley Cardwell leads the team after seven events with an 83.1 average. Senior Emily Wharton is next in the list of participants with an 84 average in six tournaments.

Sophomore Lindsey Lunceford is close behind with an 84.4 after seven events, while freshman Madison Myers is averaging 86.6 after four tournaments. Sophomore Shay Shaw rounds out the field with an 88.9 average after four tournaments.
