Men’s Tennis Earns 5-4 Win Over Harding

The East Central University men’s tennis team rebounded with a 5-4 win over Harding in Great American Conference action.

The Tigers (4-9, 1-2 GAC) started the day by taking a 2-1 advantage after winning No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. ECU then picked up wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles for the 5-4 win.

Sophomore Victor Blasco and junior Julian Caminos combined for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles over Matheus Mosquera-Coarrascosa and Caleb McReynolds. Sophomores Max DeJuan and Marc Fillat then took an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles over Helio Hashimoto and Adam Edwards.

Blasco then added a 6-1, 6-0 win over Alex Ford at No. 3 singles and Caminos added a 6-1, 6-4 win over Hashimoto at No. 4 singles. Sophomore Nate Kipping earned the win for ECU with a 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (4) win at No. 6 singles over Edwards.

The Tigers will finish their three-day road trip with a non-conference match against Arkansas-Fort Smith, Saturday, April 13.

Women’s Tennis Continues Winning Streak at Harding

SEARCY, ARK. – The East Central University women’s tennis team moved to 8-7 overall and 5-1 in the Great American Conference with a 6-3 win over Harding.

The Lady Tigers earned a 2-1 lead after the doubles matches and took four of the six singles matches for the win.

Senior Marta Valles and sophomore Elisabeth Dignard earned an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles over Benyapa Phumtip and Ali Rowden. Sophomore Aurelie Rodriguez and senior Marta Valles then took an 8-2 decision at No. 2 doubles from Chelsea Lanier and Kaleigh Wagner.

Rodriguez was the first to finish with a win in singles, defeating Katie Huff at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-1. Junior Mariah Vargas defeated Maria Moreno 7-5, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and sophomore Bernardita Muscillo defeated Rowden 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. The final point came from Valles at No. 1 singles after she defeated Phumtip 3-6, 7-6 (6), 10-3.

The Lady Tigers will wrap up their weekend road trip, Saturday, April 12 at Arkansas-Fort Smith.
