Men’s Tennis Earns Win Over Oklahoma Baptist

ADA – The East Central University men’s tennis team earned a 5-4 win over Oklahoma Baptist in their final regular-season match of the 2013 season.

The Tigers (5-9, 1-2 GAC) started the match with a 2-1 lead after the doubles matches. Sophomore Victor Blasco and junior Julian Caminos took an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles over Ganzalo Gorzon and Agustin Jenssen. Sophomore Max DeJuan and Marc Fillat also took an 8-5 win over Jacob Allbriton and Francisco DaSilva at No. 3 doubles.

Blasco then added a 6-3, 6-1 win over Dario Macanavic at No. 3 singles and Caminos added a 6-1, 6-2 win over Jenssen at No. 4 singles. The two wins gave ECU a 4-4 tie with OBU after they earned wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 singles.

The match came down to sophomore Nate Kipping at No. 6 singles, where he earned the win for the Tigers with a 6-0, 6-2 decision.

ECU will now travel to the 2013 Great American Conference Championship starting Friday, April 19 in Bentonville, Ark. The Tigers will face Southeastern at noon in the opening round.

Women’s Tennis Fall to Oklahoma Baptist

ADA – The East Central University women’s tennis team dropped a 2-7 decision to Oklahoma Baptist in the final regular-season match of the 2013 season.

The Lady Tigers (8-9, 5-1 GAC) fell behind 1-2 after the doubles matches, with ¬¬sophomore Bernardita Muscillo and junior Agostina Moran earned a 9-8 (5) win at No. 3 doubles over Ashlynne Abbe and Elisa Brito.

The final point of the day came from sophomore Kelsey Kerr at No. 5 singles. Kerr defeated Abbe 3-6, 6-0, 6-0.

The Lady Tigers will now head to the 2013 Great American Conference Championship, Friday, April 19 in Bentonville, Ark. ECU finished No. 2 in the standings and earned a bye in the opening round of the tournament. The Lady Tigers will face the winner of Harding and Henderson State at 3 p.m.
