The University of Oklahoma plans to conduct tryouts of its women's rowing team next month.
Tryouts will last six days, beginning on Sept. 4 and running through Sept. 10. Walk-ons will spend time learning how to row in a boat as well as on rowing machines.
The team will begin training for the fall season next month and race in October and November.
The fall races are usually about 3 miles long. Following the winter break in January, the team will begin training for the championship rowing season, which runs from March through May.
Last year, OU won its first Big 12 title. A Conference USA championship followed, earning the five-year-old program an automatic berth in the national championship regatta.
The Sooners finished 17th at the 2013 NCAA Rowing Championship.
