Rally Lifts Storm Past OBU in Extras

Southeastern rallied from five runs down to send the game to extra inning where Collin Sefcik turned in a walk-off sac fly that scored Cody Coats to pull out the 7-6 come-from-behind victory over Ouachita Baptist on Friday afternoon at The Ballpark in Durant.

The win lifts the Savage Storm to 5-5 overall on the year and evens their Great American Conference record at 2-2.

The loss drops the Tigers to 8-5 on the year and 3-1 in GAC play.

The teams will meet for a noon double-header on Saturday afternoon to decide the series.

Jacob Carter got the rally started in the bottom of the ninth with the team trailing 6-1 by drawing a walk with one out.

An error on a Trevor Bowen fielder's choice one batter later left runners at the corners which allowed Ryan Salter to connect on a pinch-hit single to right that plated Carter and trimmed the deficit to 6-2.

OBU then brought on its closer in an attempt to stem the tide, but Coats would get hit by a pitch as the first batter to face Keegan Ghidotti to load the bases.

Chevis Springer then drew an RBI walk to cut the deficit to 6-3, which was promptly followed by a Cade Clay two-run single that scored Coats and Salter.

OBU would coax a fly out by Chance Burcham, but a fielding error by the Tiger shortstop on a ball put in play by Sefcik allowed Springer to score the tying run, knotting the score at 6-6.

OBU would put a runner on in the 10th and two more in the 11th, but were unable to move them around.

After going down in order in the 10th, SE opened the 11th with Coats reaching on a hit by pitch.

He moved to second on a Springer single through the right side, and two batters later a Burcham single would load the bases with one out.

That's when Sefcik lofted a fly ball into left field which was snagged by the left fielder and hurled to the plate without a relay, getting to its destination just behind a sliding Coats, allowing the Storm to collect the 7-6 victory.

Burcham and Carter collected the only multi-hit outings for SE, finishing with two each while six others picked up a hit each.

Clay drove in a pair of runs, while Springer, Sefcik, Salter and Coats each added an RBI.

Mason Crenshaw was credited with the win after tossing the final two innings without allowing a run on three hits with three strikeouts, moving to 2-0 on the year.

Jonathan Furlong got the start and threw 6.0 innings, allowing six runs, just two of which were earned, on eight hits with a pair of K's.

Nick Johnson relieved Furlong with 2.0 innings of work, allowing a hit and striking out two, while Jonathan Dailey tossed one inning of three-up-three-down baseball.

OBU put up a pair of RBI singles in the fourth to mount a 2-0 lead which stretched to 3-0 after an error allowed a run to come in.

The Storm got a run back in the fifth on a Coats single that scored Carter.

The Tigers would push their edge out further in the sixth by taking advantage of a pair of SE errors that allowed three runs to come in, all unearned, to mount the 6-1 lead which held into the ninth inning.
