Roy Oswalt says he has known for several weeks that he cleared waivers, a move that would allow the Texas Rangers to trade the veteran right-hander to any team.
Oswalt said Tuesday he didn't know much about the process and has been given no indication if he would be dealt to another team.
Since joining Texas on June 23, Oswalt is 4-2 with a 5.94 ERA in 11 games. He is no longer in the starting rotation, but his last two games were spot starts after three relief appearances.
Oswalt says he doesn't know exactly what his role is. He says there was no talk of him being a reliever before signing with the Rangers, and he might have gone elsewhere if he had known of that possibility.
