A person familiar with the deal tells The Associated Press the Texas Rangers and catcher Mike Napoli have agreed on a one-year contract worth $9.4 million that avoids a salary arbitration hearing.

Napoli is getting a raise from $5.8 million last season. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity Saturday night because the team had not yet announced the deal.

The agreement comes four days before Napoli's scheduled arbitration hearing, and wraps up a week in which the Rangers also got deals done with slugging outfielder Nelson Cruz and shortstop Elvis Andrus.

Napoli set career highs by hitting .320 with 30 homers and 75 RBIs in 113 games in his first season with Texas. He asked for $11.5 million, and Texas offered $8.3 million.
