The Austin College baseball team fell 2-1 to visiting East Texas Baptist on Tuesday, surrendering just two unearned runs early in the game, but the ‘Roos were unable to get much offense in the one run loss. The ‘Roos are now 1-3 overall on the season.
The ‘Roos took a scoreless game into the third inning, when ETBU put two men on and with two outs in the inning, an error allowed a pair of runs to cross the plate and give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Those would be the only runs ETBU would generate, as the Austin College pitching staff limited ETBU to just four hits in the game.
However, that would prove to be enough for the Tigers as the ‘Roos were not able to get anything going at the plate, being held scoreless until Gus Daniel scored on a single by Jeremy Halford in the seventh to cut it to a 2-1 game. The ‘Roos were only able to put one runner on base over the final two innings, and unable to square things up.
Dylan Day went 2-for-4 and Halford went 1-for-3 with an RBI to lead the ‘Roos offensively as Austin College managed just five hits in the pitcher’s duel, and Todd Takabuki suffered the loss after surrendering the pair of unearned runs on three hits in 3.0 innings of work. Austin College allowed just one hit over the final six innings.
Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
