SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College baseball team plated seven runs in the second inning and never looked back, topping Arlington Baptist College 12-5 on Tuesday evening at Baker Field. The ‘Roos are now 11-26 overall this season with the victory.
CJ Adame and Austin Molinaro started the scoring in the second with back to back RBI singles, and Austin Vaughan, Dylan Day, Mason Leech, and Colt Herron all drove in runs during the huge second inning as the ‘Roos jumped out to a 7-0 lead. Arlington Baptist got a run back in the third, and two more runs scored in the top of the fourth to cut it to a 7-3 game.
However, in the bottom of the fourth Herron singled home a run and Shane Williams drove in two more to push the margin to 10-3, and after a pair of runs by the Patriots in the fifth, Austin College added a run on a sacrifice fly by Vaughan in the fifth and a single by Leech in the eighth to make it a 12-5 final.
Herron went 3-for-5 with two RBI and Travis Gibson went 3-for-4 with his fifth triple of the year to lead the ‘Roos offensively, while Vaughan, Leech, Adame, and Todd Takabuki all had a pair of hits. Marshall Korn picked up the win in relief, throwing 4.0 innings while allowing two runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
