’Roo Softball has Nine Named All-SCAC

SHERMAN, Texas – Nine members of the Austin College softball team have been named All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference performers for the 2013 season, the league office has announced, highlighted by Jessica Baker’s selection as a 1st Team All-SCAC honoree. Briana Hernandez, Sophia Hernandez, Charlotte Trudell, Chelsea Delaney, Jenny Dowsey, Heather Farquhar, Mallory Rossmann, and Taylor Steelman also earned All-SCAC honors.

Baker, a junior from Grapevine, was a 1st Team selection as a utility player after finishing second in the SCAC with a .447 batting average and 17 doubles, and added two home runs and 24 runs batted in on the year. Baker also scored 30 runs and finished second in the conference with 15 stolen bases.

Briana Hernandez, a freshman from Irving, was named 2nd Team All-SCAC at third base after batting .286 and finishing second in the conference with seven home runs. Hernandez added a team-high 28 runs batted in and six doubles, and was named the SCAC Hitter of the Week once this season.

Sophia Hernandez, a freshman from Irving, was named 2nd Team All-SCAC as a designated player after batting .354 and finishing third in the conference with six home runs. She also added eight doubles and drove in 20 runs while scoring 24. She also led the ‘Roos with six pitching victories and was named SCAC Hitter of the Week once.

Trudell, a senior from Coppell, was named 2nd Team All-SCAC as an outfielder after batting .311 and leading the conference with five triples while adding two doubles, a home run, and driving in 15 runs. She added nine stolen bases and scored 19 runs.

Delaney, a senior from Mesquite, was named Honorable Mention All-SCAC at shortstop after batting .269 and finishing in the top five in the conference with four home runs. Delaney added two doubles and 12 RBI, and scored 14 runs.

Dowsey, a senior from Rowlett, was named Honorable Mention All-SCAC as an outfielder after batting .226 with two doubles and six RBI, and also scored 11 runs on the year.

Farquhar, a senior from Mesquite, was named Honorable Mention All-SCAC at first base after batting .318 with three doubles, a home run, and 11 runs batted in on the year.

Rossmann, a junior from Copper Canyon, was named Honorable Mention All-SCAC at catcher after batting .194 with four doubles and 10 runs batted in, and also had a .970 fielding percentage and threw out seven runners on stolen base attempts.

Steelman, a junior from Paris, was named Honorable Mention All-SCAC as an outfielder after batting .262 with two doubles and seven runs batted in, and also scored 13 runs on the season.
