The Austin College volleyball team has been honored as an American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award winner for the 2011-2012 year, the organization has announced. This award recognizes collegiate and high school volleyball programs that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point-average.
The ’Roos are one of six Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference teams to earn this award. In all, 533 teams from all levels of both male and female college and high school volleyball were recognized with this achievement, setting a new record. The AVCA Team Academic Award was initiated in the 1992-1993 academic year. The ’Roos maintained a team GPA of 3.30 last year to be honored among those programs.
Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
