SE Falls to Rattlers

Southeastern got off to a slow start offensively and was unable to recover as they dropped the fall home finale to St. Mary's by a 94-77 margin on Monday night in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 2-7 as the team will wrap the fall portion of the schedule completely when it travels to Bartlesville, Okla., for a 2:30 p.m. matchup with Oklahoma Wesleyan.

Ronay English paced the SE offense which bounced back in the second half after falling behind by 17 points at intermission. English led all scorers in the game with 21 points, 19 of those coming in the second half. She was 8-of-12 from the floor in the second half and 8-of-13 overall, including three second half threes.

Madison Thames also came off the bench to turn in a double-digit performance with 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting.

Five of the top six scoring outings in the contest went to bench players as the Storm reserves put up 57 points on the night.

SE was outrebounded in the contest by a 45-to-36 margin, with Thames and Shelby Hill each picking up six boards to lead the Storm.

Taylor Richards dished out a game-high seven assists, while Bailey Welch added four.

Despite the big advantage in points off the bench, St. Mary's held the edge in every other specialty category, with the biggest gap being a 42-30 lead in points in the paint.

Southeastern jumped to an early 5-2 lead, but a 10-0 Rattler run would give the visitors the lead which they would not relinquish.

The Storm offense struggled to find shots while STMU pulled away, leading by as many as 21 in the first half before SE whittled the deficit back down to 52-35 at halftime.

Haley Schaefer would hit a layup to open the second half that cut the deific tot 15 points, but that was as close as it would get as St. Mary's would reel off a run and lead by as many as 31 points in the second half.

SE kept fighting, however, and used a 17-5 run to close the gap to 82-63 with 4:56 to play.

The Storm would continue battling and English would score the game's final five points to set the final of 94-77.

Southeastern would tie the Rattlers at 42-42 over the second half.
