SE Headed to UAM for Key GAC Series

Southeastern will head out to Monticello, Ark., looking to put some breathing room between it and Arkansas-Monticello in the standings when the teams meet for a three-game series on April 6-7.

The original schedule has been adjusted due to weather conditions and Saturday will still feature a double-header, however it is now slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch. The game originally set for Friday has been moved to Sunday afternoon, also at 1 p.m.

The Savage Storm come into the weekend at 17-13 overall on the season and 10-8 in Great American Conference play after dropping a tough series to league-leading Southern Arkansas two games to one.

SE and Harding are currently tied for fifth place in the GAC standings with six teams advancing to the conference tournament in Enid, Okla.

The pair is one game behind Arkansas Tech who is in fourth, and two games up in the loss column over UAM in seventh. HU has Southwestern Oklahoma State for a three-game set over the weekend.

Southeastern is second in the league in pitching with a staff ERA of 3.55, but has had its trouble in other phases of the game as the club is eighth in hitting with a .275 average and sixth in fielding with a .953 fielding percentage.

Vance Woodruff leads the starting rotation and is fourth in the GAC with a 2.30 ERA, but has not had the run support or defensive help and has put together a 2-6 record on the season.

Brandon Marris is 2-3 on the year with a 3.16 ERA following his 5-2 complete-game victory over SAU, while Eddie Cervantes continues to lead the club with four wins on the year.

Cameron Mann has put together a 2.76 ERA with a 3-0 mark and a team-best seven saves in a team-high 14 appearances.

Offensively, the Storm is paced by Evan Ramsey who leads a group of five hitters over the .300 mark with a .337 average.

He also leads the team in homers with six and RBI with 25.

Ryan Salter continues to lead the GAC in stolen bases, while he and Ramsey are tied for the SE lead in runs scored at 24.

UAM enters the weekend relying primarily on its hitting over its pitching as the club's .303 average is second in the GAC, while the 4.63 ERA from its staff is only good for eighth.

The Boll Weevils have won seven of their last eight, including 2-to-1 series win over Harding and East Central.

Taylor Eaves leads the offense for UAM with a .374 average, while Hunter Allday leads the team in homers with four and is tied for the team lead with Alex Lang in RBI with 28.

The Boll Weevils feature three pitchers with four wins on the year in starters Zach McKnight and Bobby Bryan, as well as reliever Brent Noble.

None of the UAM starters have ERA's under 4.03.
