SOSU oftball Splits Saturday Double-Header

Southeastern looked to continue its momentum from Friday's win over Southwestern Oklahoma State, cruising to an 8-0 win in five innings in the opener, but was upset in the series finale 5-3.

The Saturday split moves the Savage Storm to 32-14 overall on the season and 25-10 in Great American Conference play.

Jessica Simmons turned in a 3-for-3 effort in the opener, adding an RBI and two runs scored along with a stolen base.

Haley Strawn chipped in a pair of hits, while Sydney Kramer and Laramie Beal each added one hit and three RBI.

Mindy McElroy picked up her 18th win of the year, tossing three scoreless innings and allowing just two hits with one strikeout.

Shayna Milam tossed one inning in relief, while Jacee Bennett closed out the shutout with a scoreless inning of her own with one K.

After a scoreless first inning, the Storm opened the game up in the bottom of the second.

Strawn opened the inning with a hit and moved to second on an error. She advanced to third on a Courtney Riddle sac bunt where Shaina Crites replaced her as a pinch runner to score two batters later on a McElroy fielder's choice.

Simmons followed with an RBI single two batters later that scored Arianna Jones for a 2-0 lead.

Lacie Cook then drew a walk to load the bases and was followed by a two-run Kramer single that scored McElroy and Simmons.

Beal then completed the scoring in the inning with a three-run homer to right field to put the Storm up 7-0.

SE's final run came following and infield single and a steal of second by Simmons to open the fourth inning. She then moved to third on a Cook sac bunt and scored when Kramer reached on an error one batter later to make the score 8-0 which would hold to be the final.

Simmons continued her hitting performance in the second game, posting a 2-for-3 effort with a run scored and two more stolen bases, while Beal added a pair of hits as well.

Kramer, Jones and McElroy each added hits in the game as well.

Jones added a pair of RBI, while Kramer finished with one.

McElroy got the start and was handed the loss after tossing 6.2 innings and allowing five runs on nine hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Bennett then came on to strikeout the only batter she faced to end the top of the seventh inning.

Simmons opened the bottom of the first inning with a single and followed by stealing second and moving to third on a Cook sac bunt.

She came home one batter later when Kramer grounded out to second base with the Storm taking a 1-0 lead.

Jones added a two-run double to left in the bottom of the fourth inning that plated Crites and Kelsey Overacker to push the SE advantage to 3-0.

SWOSU found its rally though, tying the game with a three-run home run in the top of the sixth and adding a pair of runs on two-out hits in the seventh to take a 5-3 lead that would prove to be the difference.
