Southeastern men’s basketball coach Kelly Green has released the 2012-13 men’s basketball schedule which will feature an expanded conference slate and meetings with a pair of Division I Schools.
The program, in Green’s first season at the helm, posted a 12-17 season record which is the most wins since the 2006-07 season and earned the Savage Storm a trip to the Great American Conference Tournament in its first year of competition.
The 2012-13 season will open with a pair of exhibition games against D-I opponents.
The Storm will first face Brigham Young (Utah) on Oct. 26. The Cougars were 26-9 a season ago in a year that ended in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
SE will follow that with a trip to Texas-El Paso on Nov. 3. The Miners went 15-17 a year ago and finished the year in the second round of the Conference USA Tournament.
Southeastern will open the regular portion of the schedule at home on Nov. 15 against Union (Tenn.) in Bloomer Sullivan Arena, and will return a trip to Union on Nov. 20.
The Storm will sandwich another home game between those two contests when they host Arkansas-Ft. Smith on Nov. 17.
SE will continue its road trip on Nov. 23-24 with a trip the Kentucky Wesleyan Tournament where it will face Shaw (N.C.) on Nov. 23 and either the host Kentucky Wesleyan or Concordia (N.Y.) on Nov. 24.
The Storm will open conference play on Nov. 29 with a road trip to Henderson State (Ark.).
The Storm will end its fall season with a pair of home games on Dec. 6 against Arkansas Tech and Dec. 8 against Harding (Ark.)
Following a lengthy break for Christmas, Southeastern will get back on the court on Jan. 3 when it hosts Southern Arkansas.
The first rivalry meeting with East Central (Okla.) will come on Jan. 24 in Ada, Okla., with the home matchup coming on Feb. 28.
A pair of newcomers to the GAC lineup will join the rotation this year.
SE will face its first new opponent on Jan. 12 with a road trip to Northwestern Oklahoma State, the newest addition to the league, and NWOSU will come to Durant on Feb. 14.
The other new addition is Southern Nazarene who SE will host on Jan. 19 before paying a trip to Bethany, Okla., on Feb. 23.
