Sherman, Ardmore, Durant all begin football practices

High school football practices began for Texas teams that participated in spring football and for all teams in the state of Oklahoma.

The Sherman Bearcats took the field for the first time with high expectations for the season. "We are excited about this day, been looking forward to it," head coach Gary Kinne said. "We had a talented class last year. We're going to miss those guys. But our goals are always to win district and advance into the playoffs, and those are the goals we have for this year."

The Ardmore Tigers hit the practice field this morning as well. They were a first round exit in the playoffs last year after going 5-and-5 in the regular season. "We've had a great summer, attendance has been great in summer pride," Ardmore head coach Doug Wendel said. "We are looking forward to getting out here. We have a lot of returning starters. We are in good shape. So we will be able to spend a lot of time on fundamentals, technique and execution."

The Durant Lions started practices on Monday as well, the same day they began classes. Byron Cordell will try to get his team back to the playoffs after missing out last year for the first time since 2009. "Feels great, we are very excited," Cordell said. "We were disappointed last year. Our guys have talked about redeeming themselves. We are used to being in the playoffs and used to being successful."
