East Central University senior Shelby Simmons has been named the Great American Conference Player of the Week for March 19 after helping the Lady Tigers (22-6, 8-2 GAC) to a 6-0 record last week against Oklahoma Baptist and Ouachita Baptist.

The North Richland Hills, Texas, native hit .591 for the week, with 13 hits in 22 at-bats. Simmons scored five runs, added four RBIs, had a double and triple and a slugging percentage of .727.

Simmons is currently leading the Lady Tigers with a .533 average for the season, playing in 23 games and recording 40 hits and 16 RBIs.

ECU will return to action, Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23 with double-headers against Southern Arkansas at Lady Tiger Field. Friday’s games are scheduled to start at 2 p.m., with Saturday’s at noon.
