Scouting Southern Nazarene

The Crimson Storm are 8-6 overall and 4-3 in the Great American Conference after splitting their matches last weekend. SNU earned a 2-0 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State in their last outing.

SNU is close to its opponents for the season in goals scored, trailing 15-16. However, the Crimson Storm have taken over 100 more shots on the year, at 235 to 124 and have more than doubled the oppositions shots on goal total (92-45).

SNU has had better success in the opening half, scoring 10 goals and allowing just five. However, in the second half they have tallied just five and allowed 11 to be scored against them.

Bekah Stewart is the offensive leader for the Crimson Storm, with five goals and one assist. Grace Self adds three goals, while there are two other players with two and three with a single score on the season.

SNU has played both of its goalkeepers this season, with Yoli Zamarripa getting a few more appearances. Zamarripa has played in 11 matches, allowed nine goals and stopped 21 shots. Her counterpart, Natasha Fuentes, has seen action in eight matches, allowed eight goals and has 16 saves to her credit.

Against the Crimson Storm

In the first meeting of the season between the Lady Tigers and SNU, the Crimson Storm earned a 0-1 victory at Lady Tiger Field.

ECU struggled to find its offensive power in the match, with just one shot on goal being recorded by junior Milan Galloway. Redshirt freshman Taylor Lowe was in net for the Lady Tigers, allowing one goal and stopping eight shots.

Bekah Stewart scored the lone goal of the game for SNU, while Yoli Zamarripa tallied one save in goal.

The Series

This will be the seventh meeting in the all-time series. The Crimson Storm hold a 5-1 advantage in the series, including a 4-0 mark when playing in Bethany.

Ranking in the Nation

The NCAA has released their latest set of national soccer statistics and ECU is currently ranked 65th in saves per match (5.85).

Double Senior Honors

After going 2-0 Oct. 11-13, two ECU soccer players earned GAC Player of the Week honors. Senior Ashley Bradford was named the Offensive Player of the Week and senior Susana Galvez picked up the Defender of the Week awards.

Bradford scored both game winning goals for the Lady Tigers over the weekend. She helped ECU hand OBU its first GAC loss of the season. She totaled five shots, four on goal, and a .800 shot on goal percentage for the weekend. She entered the weekend with only one goal on the year.

Galvez helped the Lady Tigers pick up a pair GAC victories over the weekend. She helped the team block four shots by Harding. She added a shot on goal while playing all 90 minutes. In the overtime win against Ouachita Baptist, she played all 94 minutes and helped the team block four shots – including two in overtime. She added goal in the OT victory.

Lowe Earns Recognition

Redshirt-freshman Taylor Lowe had a strong game in the net for the Lady Tigers in their first win of the 2013 season and was named the GAC Goalkeeper of the Week for Oct. 1. Lowe earned her first career shutout with a 2-0 win over Northwestern. She stopped all five shots sent her way.

Southwestern Match Postponed

Due to officiating scheduling conflicts the match against Southwestern Oklahoma State, originally scheduled to be played Sept. 29 was forced to be postponed. The match is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 5. Watch www.ecutigers.com for more information.

Heavy Home Schedule Early

This season those wishing to see the Lady Tigers in action at home will have to come to Lady Tiger Field early, as the season is lopsided on home and away matches. ECU will play all of its eight home matches by Oct. 13, with the first home contest scheduled for Sept. 10 against Northeastern State at 4 p.m. The Lady Tigers will play their final home matches Oct. 11 (Harding) and Oct. 13 (Ouachita Baptist) before finishing the season with six straight road matches.

Up Next

After getting to take a Sunday off, the Lady Tigers will wrap up the regularly-scheduled season, Nov. 1-3 at Harding and Ouachita Baptist.
