The East Central University softball team earned its seventh straight win and the fourth-straight game in five innings in their first game of the Midwestern State Tournament. The Lady Tigers (8-2) defeated Texas A&M International, 9-0, in five innings.
The Lady Tigers garnered a total of 12 hits, scored nine runs and recorded zero errors in the win. Sophomore Kayci Snider led the team with three hits, three RBIs and five putouts. Senior Ali Manship added two hits and a run.
“Every batter in our lineup got a hit today,” said head coach Destini Anderson. “I like to see that kind of production from top to bottom.”
Manship also started the game in the circle, earning the win after three innings of work. The Harrah, Okla., native allowed four hits and struck out two batters. Sophomore Lacey Paulk finished in the circle for ECU.
“Both Ali Manship and Lacy Paulk did well for us in the circle,” added Anderson.
ECU kept to their strong offensive starts by scoring five runs in the bottom of the first. Sophomore Lauren Bancroft opened the game with a single up the middle and was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Chelsea Patterson. Senior Ali Manship added a single to move Bancroft to third and she scored when sophomore Lacey Williams doubled to right center. Sophomore Peyton Watson added a second double to center to score two more runs. The final two runs were scored when sophomore Kayci Snider hit a home run to center field.
