Southeastern baseball will open its final home weekend of the season looking to make up ground in the Great American Conference standings when it hosts Southwestern Oklahoma State for a three game series that has been pushed back to April 20-21 after originally being scheduled to start on Friday.
Rains that blew through southeastern Oklahoma led to a slight postponement of the series with a double-header set for Saturday at 1 p.m. and the series finale slated for 1 p.m. on Sunday, weather permitting.
Saturday will also be senior day for nine SE seniors playing in their final home series.
The Savage Storm enter the weekend with a 20-17 record overall on the season and a 12-12 mark in GAC play.
That conference record currently leaves SE in seventh place, one game behind Harding who is 13-11 in league play this season.
In addition to the three games against SWOSU, the Storm will close out the year with a three-game series against rival East Central.
SE will continue to lean heavily on its pitching staff which has endured some ups and downs but continues to be one of the top groups in the GAC.
Starters Vance Woodruff and Brandon Marris have both started more than 10 games this season, with Woodruff posting a team-best 2.39 ERA and 74 strikeouts, while Marris has a 3.91 ERA and has won his last three decisions after getting off to a slow start.
Cameron Mann continues to be solid in closing out games with eight saves to go with a 4-1 record and a 3.18 ERA.
Offensively, Evan Ramsey continues to pace the club in the triple crown categories, posting a .362 average, eight home runs and 29 RBI.
He leads a group of six players who have pushed their average north of the .300 mark with Chevis Springer at .328, Ryan Salter at .319, Nick Grimmett at .309, Troy McCartney at .308 and Tucker Alexander at .304.
Salter leads the team and the league in stolen bases with 26, while Springer, Grimmett and Alexander each have 20 or more RBI.
The Bulldogs come into the weekend at 27-12 overall on the season and 17-7 in GAC play and are in the midst of a six-game winning streak.
SWOSU is currently second in the GAC standings.
Kevin Cantrell paces the club offensively to the tune of a .409 average and 23 RBI, while Chris Faulkner and JR Head each have three homers to lead the team.
Calyn Young, Shane Martin and Cole Stephens lead the starting rotation for SWOSU and have combined to post a 20-7 record, with all three boasting sub-three ERA's.
