Southeastern cross country opens up its 2014 season on Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. when it runs in the Braveheart Invitational in Tyler, Texas.
The team is anxious to get back into competition after turning in the surprise performance of the Great American Conference by finishing third at the championship meet after opening the year picked to finish eighth.
That performance was led by a pair of All-Conference runners in Bailee Weger and Haylee Story.
Weger paced the Savage Storm in all but one meet, turning in a season best 5K time at the GAC Championship at 19:37.8, while Story finished right behind her at the GAC meet at 19:44.4 and posted the team's best 6K finish at the NCAA Central Regional.
SE finished no worse than fourth in the regular season last season, including a fourth-place finish out of 11 teams at this same meet a season ago to open the year.
Weger turned in a 16th place finish and four of the team's five runners finished in the top 30.
The team posted a pair of meet victories last year, both at meets hosted by Division I schools.
The team does not feature a home meet this season, but will follow up the trip to Tyler with a Sept. 13 trip to Arlington, Texas, for the Gerald Richey Invitational.
The Storm will run three meets on the year within a two hour drive of Durant, with trips to Arlington, Denton, Texas, and Shawnee, Okla.
