No. 3 Southeastern rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the bottom of the second inning against Southwestern Oklahoma State with Jessica Simmons stealing home with two outs to pick up a 3-2 walk-off victory in the first round of the Great American Conference Tournament.
The win moves the Savage Storm to 41-7 on the season and earns the squad a trip to the second round to face the winner of the final first-round contest between Arkansas-Monticello and Southern Arkansas.
Darrian Willams opened the seventh oinning with a pinch-hit single after entering for Laramie Beal midway through her at bat woth a 1-2 count.
Paige Priest followed with a walk and Simmons loaded the bases with an infield single.
Lacie Cook then pushed across the first SE run with a sacrifice fly to center that plated Williams and moved Priest to third.
Simmons would steal second on the first pitch of Courtney Riddle's at-bat which would end when Riddle singled to second, driving in Priest to tie the game at 2-2.
Following a Courtney moore line out to the pitcher, Rachel Jones, pinch-runing for Riddle initiated the double steal, taking off for second and when the pitcher turned her attention to Jones, Simmons bolted for the plate to score the game-winning run when the ball was off the mark at the plate.
SImmons and Riddel finished hte contest with a pair of hits each, with five others picking up one hit apiece.
Cook and Riddle each drove in a run.
Mindy McElroy got the start and finished the game, tossing 3.2 innings in which she allowed one unearned run on five hits.
Jacee Bennett bridged the gap for the middle 3.1 innings, allowing a run on three hits with four strikeouts.
The Bulldogs loaded the bases in the first and scored the game's first run on a Kendal Smith single which brought home Summer Blackowl who reached on an error to open the inning. SE would get out of the jam however when Kaija Morris initiated a double play going to Moore at the plate and finishing with Renneker at first.
SWOSU would get a runner to second in the third inning and Bennett came on with a 1-2 count and ended the inning with one pitch. They would get a runner to second again in the top of the fourth, but another Bennett strikeout ended any threat.
Simmons singled on an odd play with one-out and moved to second on a throwing error by the Bulldog pitcher.
Cook followed up with a single to left, moving Simmons to third and mving to second on the throw in.
With two outs and Mooore at the plate, Simmons attempted to steal home on the catcher throwback and appeared to slide in safely, but was called out on a call that drew the most vocal reaction of the afternoon, ending the inning and keeping the Storm off the scoreboard.
SWOSU took advantage of the turn in momentum in the top of the sixth when Megan Watson doubled home Caitlyn
Deas to take a 2-0 lead midway through the sixth.
Moore would lead off the bottom of the sixth with a double, but the Storm difficulties continued and that runner was left stranded at second.
