Southeastern Splits Sunday Twinbill

Southeastern cruised to a 7-1 win over Ouachita Baptist in the series opener on Saturday afternoon, but saw its comeback in game two fall just a few feet short in a 6-5 loss in the nightcap at The Ballpark in Durant.

The series finale is set for Monday afternoon at 1 p.m.

The opener saw Dylan Linke turn in his first complete game of the season, allowing an unearned run on two hits in 9.0 innings of work with six strikeouts.

The Tigers opened by taking advantage of an SE error to open up a 1-0 lead.

The Storm answered with Allen, tying the game on a bases-loaded walk, followed by a Terwilliger hit by pitch and then a Hunter walk to push the score to 3-1.

The scoreboard would show all zeros until the bottom of the sixth when Helms would connect on a three-run, two-out home run to double the score to 6-1.

Hunter would drive in Jake Perez for one more insurance run in the seventh and the Storm would hold on for a 7-1 win.

In game two OBU jumped out to a 4-0 lead, with three runs being unearned in the top of the first inning.

The Tigers would stretch it to a 5-0 lead in the top of the third, and the Storm would be unable to push a run across until a Thomas single in the fifth plated Terwilliger to cut the score to 5-1.

OBU would add another run in the top of the seventh for a 6-1 edge.

SE would load the bases on a walk, a hit batter and a Helms single to open the bottom of the seventh.

Allen would drive in a run by beating out a double-play to score Ty Hanson and close to 6-2.

Connor Counce then followed up with a three-run homer to left center to close the gap to 6-5 with two outs.

Corban Taylor followed with a single to left to bring up Terwilliger who crushed a ball to deep left center, but it was hauled in on the warning track to end the game and the SE rally.

Counce led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance with a homer and three RBI, while Thomas added a pair of hits and four others collected one each.
